Ryuei-ryu is known for both kobudo (old martial art way)  and karate (empty hands)   traditionally kobduo and karate were taught as a separate cirriculum except In Ryuei-ryu, the armed (kobudo) and unarmed (karate) parts of the system are interconnected. The same fundamental principles of movement and body dynamics are applied to both, ensuring a seamless integration of techniques.

ryuei ryu kobudo focuses on the use of various Okinawan weapons, many of which were adapted from agricultural tools which norisato nakaima learned while traveling through china and was secretly passed down through his family in Okinawa.

Ryuei-ryu's kobudo training shares the same Chinese-influenced principles as its karate: circular movements, unique footwork, and a blend of hard and soft techniques.

The weapon arts are typically reserved for advanced students. The training is meant to teach practitioners to treat the weapon as an extension of their body.

Legacy: When Kenko Nakaima decided to teach Ryuei ryu publicly in 1971, he revealed both the karate and kobudo systems to preserve them and keep the connection between the two arts under ryuei ryu.
